Le Pont Romain
The Roman Bridge is located on the historical site of St Christophe la Grotte. Hanged above the Guiers Vif River, this was a natural border between the Duchy of Savoy and France until 1860 (year of the annexation of Savoy by France.)
Ce pont était l’emplacement d’une ancienne douane entre la France et la Savoie.
Vous apercevrez les armoiries de la Savoie à proximité du pont avec la date 1822 (année de rebornage de la frontière). Malgré son nom, le pont ne date pas de l'époque romaine. Sa période de construction n'est pas connue avec exactitude mais daterait plus probablement du XVIII siècle.
Le Pont Romain est visible en libre accès (très déconseillé en hiver et en période de dégel = risque de chute de pierre ou stalactites de glace ainsi que par temps de pluie ou période humide).
