Sun dial
This reflective sun dial dates from 1673. It was painted by Father Bonfa and his students when the Stendhal high school was still a Jesuit college.
The fresco covers 100 m2 of wall and ceiling in the main stairway. It still works perfectly today. The sun is reflected onto a small mirror placed against the window. It creates a spot of light, which by reflecting onto the lines drawn on the walls and ceiling, indicated solar time, the month, and the zodiac sign. The Tourism Office of Grenoble organizes visits of the sundial.
