Saint Pierre church

  • Historic site and monument

Representative of its time (completed in 1894), this church with three naves of neo-Romanesque inspiration is distinguished by its interior decoration: Furniture, woodwork, painted decoration and a cycle of glass roofs constitute a rare complete ensemble in an "eclectic" style.

Formed by the merger of two territories, former Recoin and Chapelle-Peyrins' parishes, the former municipality La Bâtie-Divisin rebuilted the Recoin church in 1894. The new building, which costed 95.000 francs, was partially funded by the Chartreux Order (25.000 francs). Its neo-roman style portray eclectic architectural experimentations : on the outside and the inside with its cupolas replacing herring-bone vaulting, covering the nave. The cupolas are decorated with figurative scenes from the New Testament, falling within the scope of an amitious decorative campaign showing high quality furniture, 'trompe l'oeil' and stencil decors, and remarkable glass roofs.
