La forge et le détré de Lalley
Visit the blacksmith's shop and its detached buildings, built in 1836 on the village square. It was home to a succession of blacksmiths until 1976, giving rhythm to daily life with the sound of hammer and anvil. The site is listed as a Historic Monument.
Industrial and agricultural development quickly diversified the business from manufacturing and fitting horseshoes and oxen to repairing agricultural and forestry tools, and even locksmithing and wrought iron.
The forge, its "détrés" (a device for shoeing oxen), tools and straps add to the interest of this site, which is listed as a Historic Monument.
A number of personalities have described the site in their own way, including
Edith BERGER (1900-1994) and Jean GIONO (1895-1970).

"I see that the workshop of blacksmith N. is full of fire, and all gushing with sparks. Workman and apprentice are turning horseshoes on the beak of the anvil. The hammer jumps, the arms roll around the shoulders as if multiplying. They're preparing the winter shoeing in anticipation of the upcoming ice storms all over the mountain."
