The great fault of the Rocher du Parquet, the path of lightning
Discovered by Pascal Sombardier, the Rocher du Parquet fault or voie de l'éclair is a fantastic alternative to climbing Mont Aiguille. Not much more difficult, this route will reveal some exceptional viewpoints.
This climb requires a long day, starting from Les Fourchaux (Chichilianne).
After a wild approach walk, first quiet and then through large scree, we climb a ridge revealing original views of Mont Aiguille.
We then enter the large fault: 100m deep and almost 500m long, the atmosphere is halfway between mountaineering (there's often snow and ice) and caving. The cries of mockingbirds add to the sense of isolation of this passage.
Two more pitches of climbing in the new-found sunshine and we emerge near the summits of the Parquet rocks.
On the way back to the Pas de l'Aiguille and then to the start, we can enjoy the new-found bucolic atmosphere and contemplate our incredible fault one last time from the plateau.
