A bivouac is a light, temporary, basic camp that allows one or more people to spend the night in the wilderness when the weather conditions allow it.

Several types of bivouac are possible in Chamrousse:
- classic: bivouac in the mountains
- portaledge: bivouac on a cliffside
- hanging tent: bivouac between trees
