Château de Montseveroux

  • Historic site and monument

This is an ancient fortress from the 13th century built following the blueprint that Jacques de St Georges was to circulate up to the Gascogne county. It is striking by its austere style; the tower with the entry porch is the main feature of this square structure highlighted by its round towers in each corner.

Probably built towards the end of the 12th century or the beginning of the 14th century for the oldest parts. Quadrangular castle flanked by four circular towers in the corners and a drawbridge tower-gate in the center of the west facade, curtain walls pierced by two-level archways. The square keep to the east has disappeared. The south and east wings are the most altered, with numerous new windows in the former and the partial destruction of the curtain wall in the latter.
