Watch out for downhill mountain bikers all along your walk!
Looking to gain some altitude above the Alpe du Grand Serre resort? Want to explore trails through Matheysin forests and alpine meadows? Breathe in fresh mountain air with the whole family? This walk is made for you!
Depuis la station de l'Alpe du Grand Serre, empruntez des sentiers qui serpentent à travers forêts et alpages pour rejoindre les pistes de la station. Cette balade familiale, accessible à tous, se réalise en environ deux heures.
Pour prolonger l’aventure, vous pouvez également faire “la Balade des Marmottes”, un itinéraire idéal pour observer ces petits animaux dans leur habitat naturel (voir la fiche randonnée “Randonnée famille – À la rencontre des marmottes”).
Route details
Detailed Itinerary (Moderate Trail)
1. Starting point – Parking area
Park at the Cochettes parking lot. Take the uphill path that crosses the slope, just below the ski tow. You'll reach a hairpin bend, follow it. Continue along the same path. You'll pass under the ski tow once again. At the top, you’ll arrive at a wide trail coming from the right.
2. Toward Le Molard
Continue on the trail heading to your left. It leads you just below the summit of Le Molard.
3. Two options:
- Option A – Return to the resort
Take the descending path toward the resort center. Soon, you’ll see the first houses. The trail comes out to the right of the rental shop “La Case à skis.” Then turn left and follow the road toward the lake. Continue along the road to the left, keeping the lake on your right. You’ll quickly reach the starting point.
- Option B – Extend the walk
Continue straight ahead on the trail.
4. Toward the Ferme des Plateaux
The path passes under the chairlift and crosses a mountain bike trail. (Be cautious of downhill bikers if the trail is open). Keep following the trail as it enters the forest and descends toward the Ferme des Plateaux.
5. Return to the resort
Follow the path until it joins the road, then follow the road toward the lake, keeping it on your right to complete the loop.

Tips
- Find out in advance if there are any herds and livestock guardian dogs in the area.
- Bring sturdy footwear and water.
- Check the opening conditions of the mountain bike trails and the La Blache chairlift.

Depuis Grenoble : Accessible en bus durant la période scolaire et en hivers (en partant de Grenoble jusqu'à La Mure : prendre la ligne T90 ou T91 ; puis prendre la ligne T93 de La Mure pour rejoindre L'Alpe du Grand Serre, arrêt "Le Pont") en voiture ou en camping-car (aire de camping-car à proximité : "Aire de bivouac camping-car de l'Alpe du Grand Serre").
Depuis La Mure : Accessible en bus durant la période scolaire et en hivers (ligne T93 en descendant à l'arrêt "Le Pont"), en voiture ou en camping-car (aire de camping-car à proximité : "Aire de bivouac camping-car de l'Alpe du Grand Serre").
Une fois arrivés à la station de l'Alpe du Grand Serre, poursuivez votre chemin vers le plan d'eau. Au plan d'eau, prenez la route qui part sur la gauche. Il faut ensuite suivre cette route jusqu'à trouver, sur votre droite, un petit parking situé devant un téléski. Vous êtes prêt à commencer votre balade !
