Fond de la Valette, randonnée depuis Besse
A magnificent hike that takes you all the way to the border with Savoie.
From Besse, follow the Oratoires Trail near the tourist office to reach the summit of the mountain pasture at the Saint-Sébastien Oratory.
Take the vehicle-accessible trail to cross the mountain and reach the Clavant slope. Continue until you pass the ruins of an old sheepfold.
The hiking trail then follows the track, running alongside the Valette stream while staying on the same side of the mountain. You’ll reach the end of the valley, at the “fond de la valette.” Use the signs and yellow markings to climb toward the pass by following the trail. As you approach the pass, you’ll enter an alpine pasture area with a flat section located below the Chalet de la Valette. Be aware of livestock and guard dogs.
With the valley behind you, turn right onto the flat trail toward the Col de la Valette. You are now entering a sensitive area (restricted camping zone—refer to the signs marking the boundary). A sign marks the border between Isère and Savoie. The return trip follows the same route.
