Fountains of Morestel

  • Historic site and monument

Morestel's most prominent fountain stands on Place Grenette in the old town.

It was Joseph Claude Pécoud, then Mayor, who had the well on Place Grenette converted into a fountain, as indicates the inscription on the stone above it: "In 1840, year of the lord, thanks to Mr. Joseph Claude Pécoud, a town administrator, the nymphs gurgle and, with the help of a pump, water flows out".

Locations of the first flowing fountains to be installed in Morestel at the end of 1851:
- Route de Lyon, opposite Rue de la Rivoirette
- Place St Symphorien
- Place des Halles
- At the corner of Hôtel de France
- Against the wall of the old gendarmerie, now occupied by Servonnat
- Rue Blanche (with a shell decoration)
- Place Chanoz
- Place Grenette
