Jardin des Fontaines Pétrifiantes
A true paradise with a thousand springs for a vast botanical world tour. Rare plants acclimatised in a sumptuous natural setting of ponds and waterfalls. For a magical moment, discover the phenomenon of petrification, when water becomes stone.
To preserve the authenticity of the local attractions that have long made the village famous, the Jardin des Fontaines Pétrifiantes was established in 1994. Nestled in an exceptional setting in France, between the Isère River and a cliff from which waterfalls flow, forming small pools (gours) over time, this garden offers a unique experience.
For nearly a thousand years, these mysterious springs have had the unique ability to coat everything in their path with a thin layer of calcite crystals, thereby transforming various objects, mosses, and plants into an astonishing rock called tufa. Surrounding this rock formation, a harmonious and original arrangement brings together more than 800 species of flowers and plant forms, offering a true botanical world tour featuring exotic, Mediterranean, aquatic, and tropical plants.
A floral and botanical symphony, brought to life by water, begins gently before forming vast, calm pools and a beautiful waterfall. Discover the intimate charm of this mineral paradise, where nature is not tamed by the gardener but reimagined through his creative vision, with the sole aim of protecting the earth’s vegetation.
The harmony between water, flowers, wood, and rock creates a bucolic setting, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in this oasis of natural beauty.
