Important facades and painted decors restorations occured between 2019 and 2023, with help from the Culture Ministry DRAC from the Auvergnes Rhône Alpes region, Isère region and VMF association and obtention of the French Heritage Society price.

Situated 1km west from the mediaval earth fortification, on an esplanade, it is supported by two retaining walls. This castle has a typical dauphinois' style and is surrounded by a large parc. Since the construction of the first fortified manor house in the 14th and 15th century, each owner families had contributed to the edification of this impressive U shaped building. It is one of the most remarkable castles of Dauphiné region, immersed in greenery.

A long path lined by trees, which became a communal road, is developping in a perpendicular axis, facing the gate. Going through that gate, you will arrive at a bridge going over a stream (formating a moat) and leading to the main courtyard. The castle is a U shaped vast building ; the central rectangular building presents to the west its main facade and has two wings adjoined at right angles. It is protected by a scaled tiles roof and turned up gutters. In the back, you will find the chapell, the courtyard, the park and outhouses. The domain is isolated by a protecting wall, more or less well preserved, built with pebbles (with some rammed earth), coverded by hollow tiles.

With its classical appearence and showing a great homogeneity, the castle however was the subject of several construction and restoration campaign hard to identify. The Gallien family is credited to its last large modifications made on the building : the building of the main staircase with its stucced roof, the chapel, the paneling and the small reception room decors from the South wing. The building presents then the aspect that you see today. Unified by its high roofs : the East facade, opening to the courtyard, is symetrically composed.

Historic : Without any certitude on the precise building date, it is attested that in 1540, Claude de Poizieu lord du Passage asks for the land and seigneury du Passage, but it is probably only in 1672 that the Gallien de Chabon family starts building the current building in its general dispositions. In 1731, Joseph Gallien de Chabon, adviser to the Grenoble Parlement, purchases the seigneury du Passage. At his death, his nephew François begins numerous construction works (hall's main staircase and woodworks). During the revolution, the castle was closed and its furnitures sold in an auction. In 1818, the domain is bought by General Quiot, baron of the empire, that starts its modernization : wallpaper, false marble, trompe-l'oeil military emblems painted in the entrance hall, a 110m² billiards room. The general's heirs will sell the castle to the Derieux family (1855), great-great-grandmother of the current owners. The Napoleonian land register of 1822 shows an identical building disposition to the current one. You can also observe that the stream flowing to the east, used to grow to a vast canal.
The castle is listed as an historical monument since 1972.
Listed parts : main staircase, the two small reception rooms in the south wing's groud floor, facades, roofs, billiards room, chapel, dining room of the ground floor.
