Little Chapel of Recoin
The little chapel "Notre-Dame-sous-la-Croix" (de Chamrousse) is the second building to be constructed in Chamrousse, the first being the CAF chalet,
Father René Brenot and Brother Willy Roettgers, from the Seminary of the Missions, were the architects of the chapel.
The superior, Michel Magnin, obtained a plot of land donated by the 4 undivided communes (Vaulnaveys-le-Haut, Vaulnaveys-le-Bas, Brié and Herbeys), just below the Club Alpin Français chalet, on the edge of the area planned for the future Chamrousse ski resort.
Le supérieur appealed to the generosity of a number of companies for the supply of materials. The Vicat and Porte de France cement works provided the cement, while the Pascal and Murienne companies supplied the gravel, sand and tools
necessary for construction. The Pascal company, already hard at work on the construction of the first hotels and the future aerial tramway, provides the earthworks free of charge.
The timber, donated by sawyers from Vaulnaveys-le-Haut, was installed in the autumn of 1949. Father Pierre Verscheure found the bell at a second-hand shop in Grenoble, and the altar was made by Albert Dauphin, a carpenter from Saint-Martin d'Uriage.
The solemn inauguration and blessing of the chapel took place on Sunday December 11, 1949, when the first snow had already covered Chamrousse.

Today, the building is part of the Régie des Remontées Mécaniques de Chamrousse premises.
