Place aux Herbes

  • Historic site and monument

The Place aux Herbes is at the heart of the old town, and is a lively market place every morning, except Mondays, in the small indoor market (late 19th century).

This square, long known as Place du Mal-Conseil, was traditionally the place of popular power in Grenoble in the Middle Ages.
It was here that the people of Grenoble gathered to discuss the city's affairs. Until the 17th century, public executions were also held here.
