Ridges & Plateaus
You'll enjoy views over the Châteaux of Le Marchil and Montcarra, the Etang Rompu lake and Gole lake, the Canal des Moulins, and the valleys of Saint-Chef and Saint-Savin.
After passing the typical 16th-century Château de Marchil, observe the characteristic wetland species - mosses, ferns, cenandines and horsetails - found along the Canal des Moines and the Etang Rompu and Gole lakes. This is a very rich habitat in terms of avifauna with 43 species of birds observed, including the sparrowhawk and the common kestrel. Next, below the Château de Montcarra, the view spans 8 departments and 20 villages and includes Le Bugey, Mont Blanc, and the mountains of Vanoise, Chartreuse, Le Pilat and the Monts de Lyonnais area.
