The Necropolis of Saint-Nizier-du-Moucherotte
It is here, in front of one of the most beautiful views of the Alps directly above Grenoble, that 250 maquisards stood up to the German attacks on 13 June 1944. Here you’ll find the graves of Jean Prévost and many other Vercors heroes, including Eugène Chavant, the civilian leader of the maquis.
Les maquisards ils furent débordés le 15 juin lorsque l'ennemi revint avec plus d'un millier d'hommes.Leur résistance héroïque dirigée notamment par l'écrivain Jean Prévost (Capîtaine Goderville), le général Costa de Beauregard, le Capitaine Brissac et les lieutenants Chabal et Bouchier-Veyrat, constitue l'une des plus belles pages de gloire de la Résistance Française.Les tombes de Jean Prévost, mort en août 44, et de nombreux héros du Vercors, dont celle d'Eugène Chavant,chef civil du maquis, sont réunis dans ce cimetière national qui occupe l'emplacement exact où les maquisards ont exercé la plus vive résistance à l'ennemi les 13 et 15 juin 1944.
