St. John the Baptist Church
Construction of the church began at the start of the 14th century. It boasts a set of Augustinian paintings that is unique in France, depicting the Creeds of both the Apostles and the Prophets.
This church, formerly a chapel of the Hermits of Saint Augustine who settled in Crémieu as early as 1317, became a parish church during the Revolution and was dedicated to Saint John the Baptist.
Construction of the southern section began in the 14th century and continued into the 15th century with the nave, the octagonal pillars, and six side chapels. In the 17th century, elements such as the Vallin Chapel and the Sacré-Cœur Chapel were added.
Designed as a hall church with three naves and a flat apse, it originally featured a paneled ceiling, which was replaced in the 19th century by a Neo-Gothic ceiling designed by the diocesan architect Alfred Berruyer.
The 17th-century pulpit and walnut choir stalls are the work of master cabinetmaker Raymond Grillat.
The organ, located above the entrance, was reinstalled in this church in 1791. It is the oldest in the Isère department.
